w1 tuesday night which is definitely what I wrote the first time

[So, you know how sometimes there's a dead kid in a gas station and you get triggered into a massive panic attack so you run off to have a meltdown in private? Yeah, everybody knows what that's like! Haha!!!

Okay but really. He books it after the announcement--but by the time she makes it back to the truck, he's... well. Not totally calm, but settled, somewhat.

When she returns, she'll probably find him tucked into the corner on his floorbed, curled up around Elliot's sword like it's a lifeline. He's got his head resting on his knees when she comes in, and he's muttering quietly, but he looks up when he hears the door open.

Oh, yes. She must've heard, too. He should... he should check on her, huh.]

...Are you alright, Miss Kairi?

[starcracker]

[ kairi's... well, not completely unaffected by what happened, she's definitely worried and horrified, but she is not having panic attacks in the back of a truck. and she can recognize that leo's clearly not okay just from his position when she comes in, so she's putting aside her own worries and anxieties for now. ]

I'm alright, really. Are you? [ she climbs up and sits down in front of him on her knees ] I know it's a scary situation we're all in right now.

[Maybe she should have a panic attack in the back of a truck? Has she ever thought about that!!

It's tempting to try and claim that he's fine, but... well. For one thing, he obviously isn't. He's smart enough to realize that much. For another--]

Have you spoken to Sora?

[starcracker]

[ don't think she doesn't notice him changing the subject!! but she'll let it slide for now ]

Yeah. When he announced it. [ she curls her hands around the hem of a skirt ] He said... he has a few people he wants to check up on, and then he'll meet up with us again. So, I thought I should check on people too.

[STOP IT'S RELEVANT and a little bit of the tension seems to leave him at her answer, so. That's probably good.

He exhales, and it's a tad shaky--but he seems okay with straightening up a little, if only to lean back against the wall and close his eyes.]

I spoke to her yesterday. [God. He kept that stupid bookmark and everything.] She was just a child.

[starcracker]

...I know. It's awful. [ there's no getting around that, and she looks sincerely upset about it ] And we don't even know what could've done this to her.

[ or who, but she's giving the world one sliver of optimism after child murder ]

We hadn't talked since our first stop, but... she was so nice.

[He lowers his head, hands tightening on the sword. He's quiet for a long time, but eventually--]

...What do you think happened? [A lot of people seem to have strong thoughts about it.]

[starcracker]

... I don't know. We don't know if there's anything hiding in the fog with us, or if someone attacked her. I don't want to jump to conclusions yet.

[ her hands are clenched into fists ]

But there's something off about this place. Something took her body, and there was that announcement about clean up... I don't like this.

[ which is a very mild way to put it ]

[That's... ugh, yeah, those are good points. Leo tilts his head slightly, like he's listening for, or to, something--but whatever it is, he doesn't mention it.]

Mm. [...] I'm worried, too.

[starcracker]

... Try and stick close to people, okay? Don't wander around on your own if you can help it.

[ she places a hand on his knee gently ]

Well, he doesn't lash out to hit her or push her away or anything, but. He's definitely tense.]

I really think you should stay with your friends, Miss Kairi.

[starcracker]

And I will. [ she removes her hand ] But... you're my friend, too.

[ she is aware she doesn't have his name yet, it's fine. ]

[It's an utterly unsurprising answer, but it makes him sigh anyway.]

It's hardly the same thing. [He doesn't--have friends. It doesn't work like that. And even if he did--] We are strangers.

[Sometimes the KHers are gonna commit murder and that's okay

Anyway. Where are they. Sooner or later Leo will find them because he will search literally everywhere until he does.]

[ i was not kidding when i said kairi is waiting outside the bathroom for sora. this is the only logical explanation for them not currently holding hands hiding somewhere.

anyway, she's still got a damn bird on her and she's clearly tense, tapping her foot against the floor and clenching her keyblade in one hand. there is the impression that even if she could desummon it now she wouldn't, whomp.

leo does get a nod because he is one of two people she can PROBABLY assume isn't responsible because they were in the damn truck with them? haha. but she's not going to be speaking first ]

[How fucked up would it be if Leo murdered Riku I'm in tears

Presumably Komory would not be so friendly with him if that were the case, though, and he's probably been riding around on Leo's shoulder when he's not been with the two of them, so. That's something. Anyway, it's alright, she doesn't have to speak because he will.]

I won't be staying in the truck tonight.

[starcracker]

... We probably won't, either.

[ because that is where riku died and his body isn't even there anymore so what is the point :) ]

[Yeah, that's fair. He's quiet for a minute, like he wants to say something else, but decides against it.]

...Will you tell me where you'll be?

[So that he can go check on them right away if something happens. But if she doesn't want to say, that's fine too. He gets the need to be away from everyone.]

[starcracker]

... I don't know. Maybe Sora's? It's just him in there.

[ they clearly haven't discussed it much yet. people die when they are killed. ]

I just want it to be tomorrow already.

[adlucem]

[Yeah. He nods--that's a good idea.]

...I'd like to try and look into this. [They're on the warpath, yes, but they're also hurting. It shouldn't fall on them to figure this out.] If I learn anything, I'll tell you both immediately.

[starcracker]

...Thank you.

[ she pauses, pensive, before she adds: ]

Remember what I told you, when I went to the other world earlier? About what we did then? [ she switches foot, tapping that one instead ] I got a reward from it that talked about something happening tomorrow. I think we might have to do something similar tomorrow. If that's the case... I only want to know about Riku.

[ she understands that's not fair, but also, uh, bias. bias is real. ]

[Bias is real and completely valid, in his opinion. He cares about Iris, and Hyth, but the others... well. He didn't know them. And unfortunately for the rest of the group, the islanders got to him first, so that's that.

Anyway, it's not as though solving Riku's case won't help everyone else too.]

Is there anything you'd like me to do?

[starcracker]

... I don't know. [ she doesn't know how to solve a murder. monday was kind of her first time at it? she doesn't know what would help or not. ] If there's anything you know that could help...

[Well, he's read plenty of murder mystery books, but most of those didn't involve the bodies vanishing, or people being forcefully put to sleep. It's a little hard to investigate without, you know, evidence to look into.

But he nods, nonetheless. There's a slightly distant look on his face, like he's already thinking hard about what he might be able to do. The answer is nothing because it's not Saturday but he can still try, damn it.]

I'll do what I can. [You two aren't alone.] ...will you be alright, if I go look around?

[starcracker]

[ she appreciates it, really. but she shakes her head at his question, holding onto her arm behind her back ]

I'll be fine. Sora'll be back soon.

[ the implication being that she still has sora. she's stubborned them both back more than once and will again, but that doesn't make it any easier to lose them. so at least sora's still here. ]
